Mastering Retail Operations

Available now · Retail operations and store teams

Two-Day Retail Operations, Profitability & Physical Expansion Programme.
Build a retail operating system that improves the stores you already run — and gives a digital brand a disciplined route from online to physical retail.

Most retail businesses do not lack data. They lack the chain that runs from a number, to a diagnosis, to a named owner, to something that actually changes by Friday. Two stores with the same range, the same format and the same marketing perform differently, and the difference is execution. A metric with no owner and no corrective action is a report, not a control.

This is one programme, not two. Every participant is taught both operating contexts, and each completes one of them as the capstone build.

Choose your route

Both routes are taught to everyone in the room. Each participant completes one of them as their capstone build.

Route A
Improve the stores you already run
For an organisation with an existing store network and a performance number that will not move. Store, area and regional management, retail operations and business heads.
  • Store economics from P&L to contribution, and the break-even the store actually has to clear
  • Conversion, ATV, UPT, sales per square foot and labour ratio — each with a named owner
  • Stock accuracy measured, variance split by source, and a corrective plan
  • Rostering against a real traffic curve rather than a headcount budget
  • Service and visual standards that are measured, not asserted
  • A daily, weekly and monthly operating rhythm that survives a busy week
CapstoneA Retail Performance Operating System for one store or peer group — scorecard, diagnosis, owners, corrective actions, cadence and a 30/60/90-day agenda.

Route B
Move from online to physical retail
For a digital-native or D2C brand about to sign a lease, or three. Founder or CEO, retail head, operations, supply chain, customer experience, finance and the store launch owner.
  • Whether a store is economically justified at all — before the lease, not after it
  • Why online order density tells you where customers live, not where footfall converts
  • The store P&L built before signing, and what has to be true for it to work
  • The range question: the online bestseller list is not the range to stock in store
  • Staffing, and why the store-manager hire is the highest-leverage decision in the project
  • A 120-day critical path, go / no-go criteria, and the first ninety days after opening
CapstoneA Physical Retail Launch Operating Case — store P&L and break-even, readiness framework, critical path, decision gates and the post-opening operating agenda.

Module 7 · The differentiator

Opening a Store — From Online to Physical

Opening a store is widely advised on and rarely taught as an operating discipline. This is a named standalone core module of the programme, not an appendix and not a separate course, because the brands that get it wrong are usually competent operators who assumed a store was a channel rather than a system.

A store magnifies whatever is already true about the business. It does not fix weak product, weak margin or weak cash.

The ten modules

  • 01Retail Operations as a Profit System
  • 02Store Economics and the KPI Stack
  • 03Inventory Accuracy and Stock Control
  • 04The Store Operating Rhythm
  • 05Customer Experience, Store Standards and Visual Execution
  • 06People, Rostering and Productivity
  • 07Opening a Store — From Online to PhysicalRoute B core module
  • 08Loss Prevention, Compliance and Risk
  • 09Omnichannel Operations and Fulfilment
  • 10Retail Analytics and AI Governance in Retail

What the team leaves with

  • Store Performance Scorecard — each measure with a named owner
  • KPI Dictionary — every measure defined once, so two stores cannot report it differently
  • Store Economics Framework — P&L to contribution, break-even by sales per sq ft, conversion and ATV
  • Stock Integrity Control — accuracy measured, variance split by source, corrective plan
  • Labour and Productivity Plan — roster against a real traffic curve, plus a skills matrix
  • Service Recovery Framework — standard by journey step, measurement method, escalation
  • SOP and Escalation System — owner, trigger, steps, exception, evidence, review date
  • Operating Cadence — daily, weekly and monthly disciplines, each with an owner and a number
  • Store Opening Readiness Framework — store P&L before signing, 120-day critical path, go / no-go
  • 30/60/90-Day Operating Agenda — what is reviewed, by whom, and what decision is available

Every learner also receives the Learner Workbook and the Tools Pack: store P&L and break-even model, KPI scorecard, roster planner, stock accuracy audit and 120-day opening plan.

The capstone

Every participant finishes with a build, not a set of notes. Route A produces a Retail Performance Operating System for a real store or peer group. Route B produces a Physical Retail Launch Operating Case. Either route has to connect operational discipline to a commercial number.

Who it is for, and what it is not

Who it is for

  • Store, area and regional managers
  • Retail operations managers
  • Customer experience leaders
  • Stock and inventory leaders
  • Omnichannel operations and business heads
  • Moving offline: founder or CEO, retail head, operations, supply chain, finance and the store launch owner

What it is not

  • Not generic store-manager or customer-service training
  • Not an SOP document-writing exercise
  • Not a store-opening consultancy or retail real-estate advisory
  • Not property search, lease negotiation, site feasibility or fit-out management
  • Not legal, licensing, regulatory or tax advice

Honest limits

  • We commit to decision quality and documented outputs, not to a business outcome
  • No universal “good” value is claimed for any retail measure; targets are calibrated to your business
  • Worked examples are constructed composites, labelled illustrative examples
  • Regional material sits in a dated, source-backed annexe framed as what to investigate
  • No accreditation or certification is claimed or implied

What the client brings

Real operating data: store sales, footfall, transactions, conversion, ATV, UPT, sales per square foot, store P&L, occupancy, labour hours and cost, rosters, stock accuracy, shrinkage, replenishment, returns, complaints, fulfilment performance, store audit results and operating KPI reports. For Route B: the opening question itself — what problem the store is meant to solve — plus any site, format or capital assumptions already made. Pre-work is returned at least five working days before delivery.

Confidential material is never requested through this website. We do not ask for personal or employee-confidential data, and operating detail is handled after confirmation, under the engagement terms.

L&D can convene the programme. An operating sponsor has to be in the room — a cohort with no retail owner present will not act on what it produces.

Delivery

Onsite at your premises, or live facilitator-led online. The online format is the full programme: the same modules, the same exercises, the same tools and the same capstone, run in facilitated breakouts. It is not a webinar, a recording, a self-paced course or a reduced-depth version. For international teams the two days may be divided into shorter live sessions where timezone requirements justify it; the architecture remains intact.

Facilitation

Delivered by Aditi Vohra, who brings over 16 years of experience across retail and fashion functions, including considerable leadership experience in India and the GCC. The programme is led personally, not by a trainer pool.

Start with a conversation, not a proposal.

Twenty minutes is enough to tell you honestly which route fits, whether this programme is the right one, and whether the problem is actually an operations problem at all.
